Last week we had to run to Istanbul for a meeting. Undecided about where to stay we opted for the 5 star Grand Hyatt at the last minute. That turned out to be a pretty good quick decision as we had such a nice couple of days. So nice infact that I could have quite easily just stayed in the hotel and not ventured outside at all!
We were warmly welcomed by the content manager Derya Mercan, who was the sweetest and really made our stay a great one. Our room was lovely with the comfiest of beds and a beautiful view over the Besiktas football club and Bosphorus strait…
It was such a nice surprise to walk in and find a custom made hat, camera strap, leather passport holder and other goodies on the bed for us, what a sweet welcome gift!
Grand Hyatt is located in the heart of Istanbul right around the corner from Taksim Square, across the road from Gezi Park and a short walk away from the bustling Istiklal Street. For me it was really ideal as the airport bus was literally over the road and the metro station just a 5 minute walk.
Due to it’s very central location, what surprised me the most about the hotel is how big the garden area and pool was. It was such a nice space to relax, they even have a tennis court and a vegetable patch where they grow their own tomatoes and cucumbers.
We had the most delicious breakfast of waffles and nutella, eggs, pancakes, smoked salmon, pastries, olives, jams and bal kaymak (honey and cream – a must try when eating breakfast in Turkey) all served up in the most gorgeous Iznik patterned plates i’ve ever seen!
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and both evenings we opted to eat in their signature restaurant ‘34‘
The first night I ate the dallas steak which was ahhh-mayyy-zing! The second night I opted for the margarita pizza and a big salad which was delicious.
The prices were really reasonable and I would definitely eat there again when I’m next in Istanbul. The deserts were laid out in a pick and mix style and were so delicious (I’d also be lying if I said that I didn’t go back to the strawberry cheesecake more than once! 😀 )
The Grand Hyatt Hotel has 360 rooms. Ours was located on the Grand Club Floor which is home to the Grand Club room….which I can only liken to a business class lounge in an airport. A chill out area where there was always drinks and snacks available – such a great idea!
It really was such a comfortable stay and felt like a home away from home. Thanks for the wonderful time!
Night time pool hangs
